Discipline and thesis-spesific courses

15 credits

Objective

The discipline and thesis-specific courses aim to give candidates an adequate understanding of the relevant discipline and the academic field that is particularly relevant to the candidate’s thesis work. They also serve to give the thesis work a broader academic horizon in Norway and abroad.

Implementation

Discipline and thesis-specific courses can be chosen from a broad spectrum of possible courses at the PhD level (see below). The PhD candidate must be able to document participation in a sufficient number of discipline and thesis-specific courses, such that the educational component in total (compulsory and elective components) makes up at least 30 credits.

The following categories of courses are pertinent:

  • Courses organized by the PhD programme at the Faculty of Theology (see the programme for each semester).
  • Research courses held at the Faculty of Theology, often in connection with ongoing research projects at the faculty, and with lecturers of an international calibre.
  • Research courses of a corresponding level and direction that are held within PhD programmes in collaboration with the Faculty of Theology’s PhD programme.
  • Research courses with a corresponding level and direction at Nordic partner institutions within the Nordic Network for Doctoral Training in Theology and Religion.
  • Other external courses.
