Approval criteria for courses

Approval of courses

The requirements for completion of the educational component of the organized research training are met when the candidate has completed and passed the approved and credit-bearing research courses at the Faculty of Theology, at other faculties at the University of Oslo or at external collaborating institutions.

Courses can also be taken at external institutions that do not have a formal collaboration with the faculty. In such cases, the course must be approved in advance by the supervisor and the PhD leader.

The PhD leader is responsible for approving the total credits when the quota is reached.

Approval of external courses

The following procedure applies for approval of courses outside the Faculty of Theology:

  • The PhD candidate submits an application for approval of a course, with a proposal for how many credits should be awarded for the course.
  • The main supervisor signs the application and assesses the level and scope of the course, grants approval, adapts the bibliography where relevant and assesses any submissions from the doctoral research fellow received within the framework of the relevant course.
  • The PhD leader assesses the application and decides whether to grant approval. A copy of the application and approval is sent to the forskningsadministrasjon@teologi.uio.no

Documentation requirements

Candidates must arrange for approval and documentation of all credit-bearing participation and for the safekeeping of copies of all documentation throughout the PhD education. Before submitting the thesis for assessment, you must send all documentation to the PhD administration, after which you will receive written confirmation that the criteria in the PhD programme’s educational component have been met.
