Program for the Anniversary Celebrations

Sunday 18th of September


11.00: Anniversary Service in the Cathedral of Oslo

The anniversary of the Faculty of Theology opens with an anniversary mass, with music especially written for the occasion by Henrik Ødegaard.
 

13.00: Opening of the Anniversary Exhibition "Dannelse og Modernitet"

The Exhibition shows the history and role of the faculty in the Norwegian society, from the founding of the University in 1811, and up till today. The exhibition is held in the government building R5, Akersgata 59.

The exhibition will be open until the 15th of October.

Monday 19th of September


09.00 - 11.30: Seminary on Schleiermacher

Friedrich Scleiermacher was a German theologian and a ground breakin figure within modern Protestantism. The seminary will focus on Scleiermacher as a key figure in opening new fields for protestant thinking – within science, language, history, and hermeneutics – and how ground breaking thoughts like this still develops today.
This seminary will be held in English.

- an open symposium of religious leaders and academics

Two key note lectures held by the Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Mustafa Ceric, and the Preses of the Church of Norway, Bishop Helga Haugland Byfuglien.

Responses by Prof. Dr. Thorbjørn L. Knutsen, from the Norwegian University of Nature and Science, and Prof. Dr. Oddbjørn Leirvik, from the University of Oslo.

The floor will be open for questions and comments.

The symposium will be chaired by dr. Anne Hege Grung.

This symposium is a cooperation between Islamic Council of Norway, Council on Ecumenical and International Relations, Church of Norway, and the Faculty of Theology, University of Oslo.

Two key note lectures held by the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, and the Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Mustafa Ceric.
Response by Prof. Dr Ursula King from the University of Bristol.
The lectures are chaired by the fakulty dean, Prof. Dr. Trygve Wyller.
 

13.30 - 14.30:

First annual lecture in gender and religion, introduced by Prof. Dr. Jone Salomonsen.

'Religious Persecution of Women. Experiences and Feminist Motivation for Changes'
held by Prof. Dr. Isabel Apawo Phiri from School of Religion and Theology, University of KwaZulu-Natal, SA.


14.45 - 16.00:

Roundtable discussion on religion, gender, conflict and reconciliation in a multi-religious world.

The discussion is chaired by the faculty pro-dean, Prof. Dr. Aud V. Tønnessen.
