Professor Leif E. Vaage, Visiting Professor in JCC

 Leif E. Vaage is visiting professor in the projct Jesus in Cultrual Complexity January-March 2009.

He teaches New Testament literature and exegesis at Emmanuel College and the Toronto School of Theology. He also teaches every year at the Universidad Bíblica Latinoamericana Recinto Lima in Perú (South America).

Vaage is the author of Galilean Upstarts: Jesus’ First Followers According to Q and, editor of, Religious Rivalries in the Early Roman Empire and the Rise of Christianity, and together with V. Wimbush, Asceticism and the New Testament.

 During his stay Vaage will contribute to the project in various ways. He will give a lecture at the Thursday seminar, February 12., at 12:15-14, in U 305, on “The Quest for the Historical Jesus and Contemporary Cultural Politics.” During the seminar on “Holy Land as Homeland”, March 5.-6, he will present a paper on“Diogenes of Capernaum: Jesus the Cynic in borderland Galilee.” He will also give a lecture series for students from the the master programmes on Christian studies and Intercontextual theology, Family and Asceticism in the Theology of Jesus and Paul (see the presentation of KRIS4106 for further information).
