Jesus Christ and the Theology of Salvation in Indigenous Religions of the Americas

Seminar with Lars Kirhusmo Pharo, Post.doc.

Jesus Christ came to the Americas with the evangelisation of European missionaries in the 16th century. The indigenous polytheistic religions have later incorporated him in the various pantheons, containing indigenous deities/saints and Virgin Mary, where he has different roles, status and representations.

But in the numerous indigenous religious systems, Jesus Christ is not the eschatological saviour of human beings from sin. This is the primary concern for contemporary Protestant missionary doctrine, which confronts the theological concepts of Jesus Christ in Catholicism and the non-soteriological indigenous religions of the Americas.

LUNCH WILL BE SERVED BEFORE THE SEMINAR AT 13.00:

Cafeteria, Faculty of Theology, Blindernveien 9.
