Objectives

The subprojects involved in Good Protestant, Bad Religion? (GOBA) are united by two overarching research objectives

1. GOBA sets out to accurately describe, critically examine and constructively engage the processes by which religion is constituted as benign or suspect within social,
political and legal spheres, at the juncture of the nation state and civil society.

2. GOBA sets out to create a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms operative in the formatting of religion in Norway and beyond, and foster a knowledge transfer from the academy to key decision makers on the ramifications of this formatting in Norwegian society, engaging public authorities, politicians and actors in civil society to rethink the good/bad dichotomy currently colonizing debates on religious pluralism.
