Death in Early Protestant Tradition: Reading seminar

Early Modern Oratio Funebris and the funeralsermon

What was the difference and what was the connection between the two genres? Oratio Funebris were speeches at the University on the occasion of someone's death, and the funeralsermons were speeches held by the priest in the church at someone's funeral.

The question is discussed in the seminar, based on the reading of the two sermons in memory of prof. Cristien Mortensen Morsing (d. 1554): The oratio funebris by Hans Høine (1554), as well as the funeralsermon written by bishop Peder Palladius (1554).

Open to interested students and researchers.
