Ritualising in a World at Risk. Politics of Gender, Piety and Authority

Project leader Jone Salomonsen was in December 2009 granted Seedmoney from LEVE, University of Oslo, for a follow-up workshop to the Broken Women's project in fall 2010, focusing in particular on ritual, gender and agency.

The new project is titled:

"Ritualising in a World at Risk. Politics of Gender, Piety and Authority in Earth Activism North and South"

The goal of the workshop is to establish an international academic forum to generate and discuss new knowledge on emerging post-traditional foms of ritualizing in which women, youth activists and marginalized people take a lead. We are in particular interested in framed events that may be analyzed as strategic acts of response to social and environmental risk in the global South and North.

Workshop facilitators are Jone Salomonsen (University of Oslo), Ute Huesken (University of Oslo), Donna Seamone (Acadia University, Canada),Graham Harvey (Open University, UK), Sarah Pike (Chico California State University, USA), Morny Joy(Calgary University, Canada).

More information will come.
