PhD seminar "Writing abstracts for conferences"

3 hour seminar with Diana Edelman

This workshop is required for anyone who is in the transitional or new PhD program but will prove to be of use to all who will present in professional conferences, workshops, and congresses in the future. Please bring to the workshop an abstract of 500 words maximum for a 30-minute paper you envision yourself as giving or have given already. If you are a bit stuck, think of a paper you could give taken from a segment of your PhD work that would be a self-standing topic covered in 30 minutes (not a portion of an existing chapter cut out from your thesis). We will discuss best practice for writing abstracts, the politics of submitting a paper in response to a Call for Papers, and career considerations in presenting at professional conferences. Instructor: Diana Edelman
